Shrove Tuesday
Pancake Day 2010 - Tuesday February 16th
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.
Traditionally it was a time for cleaning out all the fat, eggs and dairy products, before Lent. Lent is a time for cleansing in the lead up to Easter.
Below is a recipe for pancakes, this is a good one for large pancakes.
Pancake Recipe
125 g flour 1/4 teas salt 1 egg and 1 yolk extra 250 ml milk 50 ml water 1 teas melted butter 1 teas oil or butter for frying
Sift flour and salt and make a well in the middle and break in egg and yolk and stir. Add liquid gradually and stir. Beat well until smooth Stand for one hour then add the melted butter. Heat the oil in a small frying pan, drain and pour a small quantity of the mixture. Tilt so that it covers the whole pan thinly. Cook quickly until the edges come away from the sides, turn and cook the other side. Can be reheated in 400 degree oven for 4-5 minutes.
Add your favourite topping. Some suggestions:. Lemon and sugar Jam and cream or icecream. Chocolate sauce Golden syrup
