Celebrating the New Year can be great fun.
When do you celebrate?
Do you stay up on December 31st to see the New Year in?
If you take children to this type of party remember that they will be up well past their bedtime.
Perhaps set things up for them in a seperate room and let them have a slumber party. If the room is big enough set up a tent and they can pretend that they are camping.
Do you celebrate on New Years day?
Have an area for the children to run around in away from the adults.
Some quiet activities:
How many words can you make from the letters in: eg. Happy New Year..
Have pictures of celebrities and other things that made headlines in the past year. See how many your guests can name. Make it a competition. Suitable for older children or as a family group.
Make your own hats and decorate.
Make your own noisemakers using empty plastic bottles and and dry beans or rice.
These will need a larger area for children to play in:
Games such as Twister.
Keeping the balloon in the air; or feather
These are just some ideas you can use. Depending on the weather, the number and ages of the children and the area you have you can add other games.
